Severe
and early trauma often leads to dissociative conditions in which
segments of the overwhelming experience are walled off from the
continuity of consciousness. There are varying degrees of dissociation,
the most complex example of which is found in dissociative identity,
commonly called "multiple personality." Amy Louise Miller has been
working with persons with dissociative conditions for nearly twenty
years. She uses a variety of approaches, including EMDR, to instill
a feeling of safety, stability and control before work begins with
the dissociative patterns.
